YEAR 10 A H
The Year HAJJAT-UL-ISLAM
On Monday, teh 25th Zi-Qa'ad of 10 A.H., the Holy Prophet SAW set out for Hajj a very large number of Sahabah, who were as reported, more than one lac. At Zul-Hulaifah, six miles away from Medina Munawwarah, They put on their Ihram, entered Mecca Muazzamah on Saturday, the 4th Zil Hajj and then performed Hajj according to the tenets of Sahabah.
Sermon in Arafaat
On the 9th Zil Hajja, the Holy Prophet SAW after reaching Arfaat delivered a comprehensive and eloquent sermon which was, in fact, the last message of the last Messenger of Allah. Especially the following words of Prophet's sermon ought to be inscribed on the leaf of the heart of every Muslim:
" O People ! Listen to my word so that I may tell you the important matters. May be I no longer exist among you by next year."
Then Prophet said:
" The life, the property and the honour of Muslims are as much sacred for you as this day (Arafah), this month (Zil Hajj) and this city (Mecca). therefore, whosoever is entrusted with any thing by anyone, he should return it to him."
Thereafter Prophet said:
" O people ! Your women-folk have their rights on you and you have your rights on them. "
" O people ! All Muslims are brothers of one another. No one has any right over the possession of another without his voluntary approval. Do not apostate after me nor kill one another, as I am leaving behind for you the Book of Allah. If you hold fast the commandments contained therein your shall never go astray."
Then Prophet said:
" O People ! Your Lord is one and your father is one. All of you are the posterity of Adam ( Peace be upon him) was created from clay. The most honourable among you is the one who is the most righteous of you. No Arab is superior to a non-Arab (Ajami). Remember, I have conveyed the divine message. O Allah ! Those who are present ought to convey to others who are absent."
After performing Hajj the the Holy Prophet SAW stayed in Mecca for ten days and returned to Medina.
Sarayah Usman
After returning from Mecca the Holy
Prophet SAW organized a Saryah for Jihad against Rome on 26th of
Safar, 11 A.H. in which great companions including Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akbar RA,
Hadrat Farooqi-i-Azam RA and Hadrat Abu Ubaidah RA took part. Command was, however, entrusted to
Hadrat Usman RA. This was the last army arranged for dispatch of Saryah by the Holy
Prophet SAW himself.
Fatal
Disease
But before the dispatch of this Saryah the Holy Prophet SAW suffered from fever. On Wednesday, the 28th of Safar, 11A.H., the Holy
Prophet SAW went to the graveyard of Baqi Gharqad at night and
prayed for the departed souls, and said: " O the departed ones here in these graves ! I may
Allah bless you in your this position and stay in the graves, as perfidies have
emerged in the world."
When he came back
he had severe headache and again suffered from fever. According to the authentic
versions, he suffered from this fever for consecutive thirteen days and passed
away in the same condition. During the course of his sickness he used to shift
daily from one apartment to the others of his wives, but when the disease
because fatal he sought permission from all other wives to stay with Aaiyashah
Siddiqah and they all agreed.
Imamate of Hadrat Siddiq--eAkbar
Due to the severity of the disease when the Holy Prophet
SAW could no more go to the Mosque, Prophet's conveyed his instructions to Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akbar RA to lead the prayers. Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akbar led about seventy prayers. One day Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akbar RA and Hadrat Abbas RA happened to pass by a meeting of Ansaar who were weeping. They asked the cause of it, and the reply was that all of them were remembering their company with the Holy Prophet SAW which they were now deprived of Hadrat Abbas RA gave this news to the Holy Prophet SAW also, who managed to come out by the support of the shoulders of Hadrat Ali RA and Hadrat Fazal RA. Hadrat Abbas RA was walking ahead of them. The Holy Prophet SAW tried to climb the pulpit, but the set on the lower step being unable to rise further. Then the Holy Prophet SAW delivered on eloquent sermon, which in sum was as follows.
Last Sermon of the last Prophet SAW
" O people ! I have come to know that you are afraid that the Holy Prophet SAW shall die. Did any prophet before live for ever? How can I? Yes, I am going to meet my Lord, and you shall also meet me. Ay, your meeting place is the cistern of Kauthar ( Hoz-i-kausar). So whosoever desires to saturate himself from that cistern he should restrain himself from unnecessary and vulgar things. I exhort you to unity and good treatment towards Muhajireen."
And the said :
" When people obey Almighty Allah, their superiors and rulers do justice to them. And when they disobey Almighty Allah their superiors and rulers become cruel to them."
Thereafter the Holy Prophet SAW went back to his apartment, and 3 or 5 days before his demise, the Holy Prophet SAW once again come out when Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akbar RA was leading the prayers, who tried to get back but the Holy Prophet SAW prevented him from doing so and himself sat by the left side of Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akbar RA, after prayers the Holy Prophet SAW said:
" Abu Bakar (Siddiq-e-Akbar) my best benefactor, if I had made anyone my Khaleel (fast friend) except Allah, I would have preferred Abu Bakr. Since there is no Khaleel except Allah, I regard Abu Bakr as my brother and friend, Allah the doors of the people opening in the mosque may be closed except that of Abu Bakr."
On Monday the 2nd Rabiul Awwal people were saying their morning prayers behind Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akabr when abruptly the Holy Prophet SAW removed the curtain and looked at the people and smiled. Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akabr, knowing about it, tried to get back and the Sahabah also left a little bit disturbed in their prayers because of the pleasure they received by Prophet's gesture.
The Holy Prophet SAW pointed with his hand to complete their prayers. And after dropping the curtain Prophet SAW went in. After that Prophet never came out and the same day be expired and met his exalted Friend." We all belong to Allah and to Him shall we return."
The Holy Prophet's SAW age at that time was sixty-three.
Prophet's Last Words
Hadrat Aiyshah says: During this sickness the Holy Prophet SAW off and uncovered his face and said that Almighty Allah cursed the Jews and Christians because they had turned the graves of their Prophets into worship-houses. The object was to warn the Muslims against this abominable practice.
Alas ! The very thing against which the Prophet of Allah SAW warned the Muslims, they did no discard it even today. Hadrat Aiyshah also said, just before his demise the Holy Prophet SAW looked towards the ceiling and said repeatedly.
"O Allah ! I like the great companion !." According to some other versions he repeated: "Ass sallat assalalt ( the prayer, the prayer)."
when the said news of the Holy Prophet's SAW demise spread among the Sahabah they were all benumbed. The honourable Sahabah. like Farooq-i-Azam (Umer) were so much shocked that they even denied the demise of the Holy Prophet SAW. At that critical juncture Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akabr came forward and in brief sermon he said: " Whosoever was worshipping Muhammad SAW he should listen that he SAW has died. And whosoever was worshipping Almighty Allah he should know that He is the Alive. the Eternal." After hearing it, all the Sahabah controlled themselves. In this wise manner Hadrat Siddiq-e-Akabr exhorted them to patience.
In view of the apprehended turmoil in the spiritual and secular affairs and the possible raids by the internal and external enemies, appointment of a caliph after the the Holy Prophet SAW was given top priority and considered essential before the formal burial ceremonies. Settlement of the disputed issue become late and the burial ceremony was delayed because of it. Therefore, instead of Monday, Hadrat Ali and Hadrat Abbas gave bath the Holy Prophet's SAW body and covered to with the shroud on Wednesday at night, and the Salat-ul-Janazah was offered. According to a hadith, the grave for the Holy Prophet SAW was prepared in the apartment of Hadrat Aiyshah Siddiqa, where he breathed his last. The Holy Prophet's SAW grave was kept up to the height of the blisht (the height from little finger to the thumb in extended from).
After this brief description of the Holy Prophet's SAW life history it is deemed proper that a brief account of his noble conduct may also be presented. May most gracious Allah grant us all the strength of acting upon it.
Character and Conduct
The Holy Prophet's SAW was the most chivalrous and bravest, and at the same time the most generous man. Whenever any person asked for a thing he used to respond very quickly and favorably. He was the most tolerant and persevering so much so that once the Sahabah requested him to invoke curse on a group of the infidels but the replied, " I have been sent
as a mercy and not a chastisement." Once the Holy Prophet's SAW
tooth was martyred by the enemies, but in return he prayed for their
forgiveness.
The Holy Prophet's SAW was unique in modest. The Prophet never stared at any one's face. The Prophet
was neither vindictive in his personal affairs not expressed his anger. But
whenever he noticed some one crossing the limits prescribed by Allah, he did
express his anger and in that case no one stand it. Whenever he was given option
between the tow things, he always opted for the easy one (so that it may
facility the Ummah to follow him). He did not use to find fault with any dish,
rather used to eat it if it was favorable otherwise he would just leave it. He
did not like to recline against a pillow while eating or sit on a table etc.
Light and thin loaves were never prepared for him. He used to eat melon combined
with dates. He was by nature fond of honey and all sorts of
sweets.
Hadrat Abu Hurairah said: " The Holy Prophet's SAW left this world in such a way that he and his family members never at even the barley-bread to their entire satisfaction. Some times, even two months padded and there was nothing to cook in their house. In such circumstances they had to lie on dates and water only."
He used to mend his shoes himself and stitch
patches to his clothes himself. He worked for his family and visited the
patients to enquire about their health as his general practice. If any person
invited, whether a wealthy or a poor, he always accepted and went to his place.
He never looked down upon a poor person just because of his destitution and he
was never awe-struck by the realm of even a mightiest King. He used to allow
even his slave to ride behind him He used to wear coarse clothes and even mended
shoes. White clothes were his most favorite dress.
His practice was to immensely remember Allah
and avoid idle talk. He used to offer Salat somewhat lengthy one but deliver
Khutbah a short one. He never hesitated in walking along with the slaves and the
poor people. On and off, he also used he never talked of any false thing. He was
warmest among the people on welcoming his visitors and kindest in conduct while
talking to or dealing with others. He used to accept the regrets if anyone
regretted for any wrong or misconduct.
Hadrat Aiyashah said: "His conduct was infact the Qur'an." And the Holy Qur'an confirms it in the following words. "and most rare you passes king moral
excellence." It means whatever Qur'an appreciated, he
also appreciated the same and whatever the Qur'an disliked he also disliked the
same.
Hadrat Anas said: " I have never smelt a fragrance other than the fragrance of the Holy Prophet SAW."
When a worldly king deputes any one as Governor of a Province. He is gone some signs and some powers are delegated to him, which convince the people of his Governorship. For instance his grandeur, his retinue, his army and the powers invested in him, which other people can't enforce. Similarly, when the messengers of Allah come in this world, they are enriched in humanly possible highest degree of qualities of truth, honesty and good conduct, and are also entrusted with a dominating power by which their antagonists yield before them. The same superhuman or supernatural powers qualities are named as miracles.
The miracles of our messenger of Allah,
Prophet Muhammad SAW, also excell the miracles of all other
Prophets and Messengers in number and nature. The miracles of the former
Prophets SAW were hinging around their own personalities but
Qur'an, the miracle of the Holy Prophet SAW is even today a
living one and safely in the hand of every Muslim. All the forces of the
universe, including the human beings and the jinn, are helpless before it.
Besides, dividing the moon into two parts, flowing of water through his fingers,
recitation of tasbewh (Allah's praise) by the pebbles, weeping of the wooden
pillar, greetings for him by the trees, his calling of the trees and their
physical presence before him, and turning of thousand of his prophecies into
stark reality like the sun, all these and thousands of other miracles are
attributed to the Holy Prophet SAW which are not only mentioned
in the Quranic verses and Ahadith but have also been proved by the evidence of
the infidels as attested by the preceding and the succeeding scholars in their
looks. "Khasais-i-Kubra" by Alama Suyuti and later on ' Risala
Al-Kalam-ul-Mubeen" (Urdu) have been written on the subject, but our present brief treatise does not have a room for its details. Therefore, it is concluded here.
And All praise to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds.
